Test 13: EGR Valve

TEST 13: EGR VALVE

TEST 13 EGR VALVE
STEP  INSPECTION  ACTION 
1 CHECK EGR VALVE FUNCTION BY APPLYING VACUUM WITH HAND PUMP
  • Disconnect Idle Air Control (IAC) valve connector.
  • Remove and plug the vacuum supply hose to EGR valve.
  • Start engine and run at idle with transmission in NEUTRAL.
  • Observe idle speed.
  • Connect a hand vacuum pump to EGR valve and slowly apply vacuum (17-34 kPa {5-20 in-Hg}).
  • Does idle speed drop more than 100 rpm with vacuum applied and return to normal (+/-25 rpm) after vacuum is removed? 
 Yes EGR valve is OK.
No Replace EGR valve.
