DTC P1260 DETECTION CONDITION AND POSSIBLE CAUSE

DTC P1260 ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM
DETECTION CONDITION
  • P1260 indicates the anti-theft system has determined a theft condition existed and the engine is disabled.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
  • Previous theft condition.
  • Anti-theft system failure.
DTC P1260 INSPECTION

STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK ALL OTHER PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT (PATS) DTCs
  • Repair all other PATS DTCs before P1260. Refer to IMMOBILIZER SYSTEMS .
  • Have all other PATS DTCs been diagnosed?
Yes Go to next step.
No Refer to IMMOBILIZER SYSTEMS .
2 CHECK FOR OTHER POWERTRAIN DTCs
  • Repair all other powertrain DTCs before P1260.
  • Have all other powertrain DTCs been No diagnosed?
Yes Go to next step.
No Go to appropriate DTC Troubleshooting.
ATTEMPT TO START ENGINE
  • Complete Keep Alive Random Access Memory (KAM). Reset to clear DTC 1260. This reset initializes the PCM to communicate with the PATS.
  • Cycle ignition key from OFF to ON (RUN) 3--5 times, each time leaving the key in ON (RUN) for at least 3 seconds. This initializes the PCM and Anti-Theft system on certain applications.
  • Attempt to start the engine.
  • Does the engine start?
Yes No system faults exist at present time. For intermittent No Starts or Start Stalls, check for intermittent PATS faults.
NOTE: PATS cannot stall the engine after 1 second of operation.

For intermittent Stalls while driving, verify NGS Tester to PCM communication during concern. If PCM communication error occurs, possible causes are:
  • Loss of PWRS or GNDS to PCM.
  • Faulty PCM PWR relay.
  • Faulty EEC PWR diode.

Repair as necessary and return vehicle to customer.
No DTC P1260 is not the cause of the No Start.
See DIAGNOSTIC INDEX to diagnose the No Start symptom.
