Test 15: Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFEGR) Sensor

TEST 15: DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE FEEDBACK EGR (DPFEGR) SENSOR

TEST 15 DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE FEEDBACK EGR (DPFEGR) SENSOR
STEP  INSPECTION  ACTION
1 CHECK DPFEGR OUTPUT
  • Connect NGS Tester to DLC.
  • Warm up engine and run at idle.
  • Access DPFEGR PID and record value for the following:
    • Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
    • Hot idle.
    • Driving 48 kmh (30 mph).
    • 88 kmh (55 mph).
  • Are DPFEGR PID values as specified?

See PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article
Yes DPFE sensor is OK.
No Go to step 2.
2 CHECK DPFEGR SENSOR OUTPUT BY APPLYING VACUUM WITH HAND PUMP
  • Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
  • Access DPFEGR PID on NGS Tester.
  • Disconnect upstream and downstream hoses from sensor.
  • Connect a hand vacuum pump to intake manifold side (downstream side = smaller diameter) of DPFEGR sensor.
  • Apply vacuum and check PID.
    • The DPFEGR PID voltage must be between 0.2 and 1.3 volt with the key on and no vacuum applied.
    • The DPFEGR PID voltage must increase to greater than 4.0 volts with the vacuum applied.
    • The DPFEGR PID must drop to less than 1.5 volts in less than 3 seconds when vacuum is released.
  • Is PID at specification?
Yes DPFEGR sensor is OK.
Check vacuum line to intake manifold for kinks, clogging or restriction.
Repair or replace as necessary.
No Replace DPFEGR sensor. See ELECTRICAL COMPONENT LOCATOR .
