Removal and Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda Tribute. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
  • Prior to removal of the GEM, it is necessary to upload module configuration information to a NGS Tester.

This information needs to be downloaded into the new module once installed. For additional information, refer to PROGRAMMABLE MODULE INSTALLATION - USING BACKUP DATA  .

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2. Remove the floor console. Refer to FLOOR CONSOLE -- HIGH SERIES , or FLOOR CONSOLE -- LOW SERIES .

  3. Disconnect the GEM electrical connectors.

  4. Remove the GEM
    1. Pull back the insulation and remove the nuts.
    2. Remove the GEM.
      CAUTION:
      • Once the new GEM is installed, it is necessary to download the module configuration information from the scan tool into the new GEM. You must also configure the new GEM for dealer installed option. Please refer to applicable accessory installation procedures. For additional information; refer to MODULE CONFIGURATION  .
  5. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    1. Configure the GEM. Refer to PROGRAMMABLE MODULE INSTALLATION - USING BACKUP DATA  .
