Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda Tribute. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: Brake fluid contains polyglycol ethers and polyglycols. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. If brake fluid contacts eyes, flush eyes with running water for 15 minutes. Get medical attention if irritation persists. If taken internally, drink water and induce vomiting. Get medical attention immediately.
CAUTION: Brake fluid is harmful to painted and plastic surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash it with water.
  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
  2. Remove the air cleaner.
  3. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector.

  5. Disconnect the brake lines.

  6. Remove the bolt.

  7. Remove the bolts and the HCU.

  8. NOTE: The 4x2 and 4x4 modules are not interchangeable. Before installing a module, verify its application.

  9. Remove the screws and the control module, if necessary.
  10. NOTE: Bleed the HCU after performing this procedure. Refer to BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM .
  11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
