Vehicle Speed Sensor
NOTE:
On vehicles without ABS, VSS signal is input to instrument cluster, then output to PCM. On vehicles with ABS, VSS signal is sent from ABS wheel speed sensors to ABS module and then to PCM.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect vehicle speed sensor connector. Remove vehicle speed sensor. Measure voltage between sensor terminals while rotating driven gear. See Fig 1.
- Voltage reading should fluctuate about 5 volts. If voltmeter needle does not fluctuate as specified, replace sensor. If voltmeter needle fluctuates as specified, sensor is okay.
