Functional Check

  1. With ignition key removed, ensure selector lever cannot be moved from "P" position. Insert key in ignition switch.
  2. Turn ignition on. Ensure selector lever can only be moved with brake pedal depressed. Move selector lever to "R" position.
  3. Ensure ignition key cannot be removed. Move selector lever to "P" position. Ensure ignition key is removable.
  4. If shift lock system does not operate as described, check selector lever, shift lock solenoid and control cable.
  5. Place selector lever in "P" position. On Miata and Millenia, push down emergency override button on shifter console using a screwdriver, and verify selector lever can be moved from "P" position. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . On MPV, push down emergency override button on top of steering column cover. On all models, if selector lever cannot be moved from "P" position, replace shift lock actuator.
