Generator No Load Test

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Switch DVOM to voltmeter function. On pickups, connect positive lead to generator connector A-172 (Black/Orange wire). On Tribute, connect positive lead to generator connector X-102b/c (Yellow/White wire). On all models, connect negative lead to ground.
  2. Start engine, turn all electrical accessories off. With engine running at 2000 RPM, monitor generator voltage output. If voltage output is 13-15 volts, generator is operating normally. If output is not 13-15 volts, investigate concern. See SYMPTOM INDEX (B-SERIES PICKUP)  or SYMPTOM INDEX (TRIBUTE)  under SYSTEM TESTS.
