DTC P0452: Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor Input Low: Testing
NOTE:
Record freeze frame data. Check for service bulletins and on-line information.
- Connect scan tool to DLC-2. Start engine. Check FTP V PID. If PID is less than .2 volt, go to next step. If PID is .2 volt or more, problem is not present. Check for intermittent problem. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
- Disconnect FTP sensor connector. Using scan tool, check FTP V PID. If PID is more than 4.8 volts, go to next step. If PID is 4.8 volts or less, go to step 5
.NOTE: If DTC P0107 and P0122 are present with P0452, check reference voltage. See REFERENCE VOLTAGE test in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - MIATA, MILLENIA, MPV, PROTEGE & 626 article.
- Turn ignition on. Check voltage between FTP sensor harness connector terminal "C" (Pink/Blue wire) and ground. If voltage is not 4.5-5.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 4.5-5.5 volts, check FTP sensor harness connector terminal "C". If problem is present, repair as necessary. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If terminal is okay, replace FTP sensor and go to step 7 .
- Disconnect 3-pin harness connector B1-21, located about 3 inches from FTP sensor, near charcoal canister. Check voltage between 3-pin male harness connector B1-21 terminal "C" (Pink/Blue wire) and ground. If voltage is 4.5-5.5 volts, repair open Pink/Blue wire between 3-pin connector B1-21 terminal "C" and FTP sensor terminal "C". See FTP SENSOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION table. Go to step 7 . If voltage is not 4.5-5.5 volts, repair open Pink/Blue wire between PCM terminal 90 and 3-pin harness connector B1-21 terminal "C". See . Go to step 7 .
- Check continuity between 3-pin female harness connector B1-21 terminal "A" (Red wire) and ground. If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short to ground in Red wire between 3-pin female harness connector B1-21 terminal "A" and FTP harness connector terminal "A". See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 7 .
- Disconnect PCM harness connector. PCM is mounted to passenger floor, behind glove box. Check continuity between 3-pin male harness connector B1-21 terminal "A" (Red/Blue wire) and ground. If continuity is present, repair short to ground in Red/Blue wire between PCM harness connector terminal No. 62 and 3-pin male harness connector B1-21 terminal "A". See Figure . If continuity is not present, check FTP sensor and PCM for short in wire harness. Repair or replace wire harness. See FTP SENSOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION table. Repair as necessary. Go to next step.
- Reconnect all components. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, clear DTC. Start engine. Ensure FTP V PID is .2-4.8 volts when ECT V PID is less than 176°F. Recheck DTCs. If DTC P0452 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. If DTC P0452 is not present, go to next step.
- Perform after repair procedure. See AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE . If DTC is not present, testing is complete. If any DTC is present, go to appropriate test for diagnosis and repair.
