EVAP Monitor Repair Verification Drive Mode

NOTE: Intake Air Temperature (IAT) PID must be 20-100°F (-6.7-37.6°C) to start EVAP system monitor. Fuel level (FLI) PID must be 15-85 percent to start EVAP system monitor. Ensure drive mode conditions are met 4-10 minutes after starting engine. If time exceeds 10 minutes, turn ignition off to reset timer, then restart engine. After monitoring conditions are set, system testing requires 30 seconds or more to complete. Fuel tank pressure will change during monitoring as shown in illustration. See Fig 1 .
NOTE: Eight hour cold soak time may be shortened by 3 hours depending on conditions. If soak period is shortened, PCM may detect a malfunction even after repairs. This may happen during warm or hot ambient conditions.
  1. Cold soak vehicle for 8 hours before performing EVAP monitor repair verification drive mode. In cold weather conditions, 8 hour cold soak time may not be necessary and can be shortened by 3 hours. To shorten cold soak, go to step  5 . If it is not necessary to shorten cold soak, go to next step.
  2. Connect scan tool. Turn off all accessories. Start engine. Drive vehicle at 38-65 MPH within 4-10 minutes after engine start. Maintain a constant speed for at least 2 minutes, within 4-10 minutes after engine start. Stop vehicle and allow to idle for 20 seconds or more.
  3. Using scan tool, check drive mode completion status. If drive mode is not completed, turn ignition off. Repeat procedure again. If drive mode is completed, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool, check values. If values are within specification, verify no DTCs are present. Repair is complete. If values are not within specification, repair is not complete.
  5. To by-pass 8 hour soak time, cool fuel tank as much as possible. Connect scan tool. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, reset 8 hour timer. Leave ignition on. Perform test procedure. Go to step  2 .
