EGR Vacuum Regulator

  1. Check EGRVR Solenoid Output By Applying Vacuum With Hand Pump

Disconnect vacuum hoses from EGR Vacuum Regulator (EGRVR) solenoid. Connect a hand vacuum pump to port "A" of EGRVR solenoid. Plug port "B" of EGRVR solenoid. Apply vacuum to port "A" of EGRVR solenoid. Observe vacuum gauge. If vacuum holds, go to next step. If vacuum does not hold, replace faulty EGRVR solenoid.
  2. CAUTION: During next step, DO NOT apply battery voltage to solenoid terminal "B" of EGRVR solenoid. Diode in EGRVR solenoid may be damaged.

  3. Check EGRVR Solenoid Vacuum Output Capability
Apply vacuum to port "A" of EGRVR solenoid. Apply battery voltage to terminal "A" and ground terminal "B" of EGRVR solenoid. Observe vacuum gauge. Vacuum should release when solenoid is energized. If vacuum released, EGRVR solenoid is okay. If vacuum did not release, replace faulty EGRVR solenoid.
