Ground Circuits

  1. Turn ignition switch off. Locate Powertrain Control Module (PCM). See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE LOCATION  table. Disconnect PCM harness connector. Using a DVOM, check continuity between ground and PCM connector pins. See IDENTIFYING PCM GROUND PINS  table. See Figure -Figure . If continuity is not present, repair open ground circuit as necessary. If continuity is present, go to next step.

    Except Tribute 24, 25, 51, 76, 77 & 103
    Tribute
    2.0L 23, 24, 25, 33, 51, 76, 77 & 103
    3.0L 3, 24, 25, 51, 76 & 103
  2. Connect DVOM negative lead to a good ground. With vehicle running, backprobe DVOM positive lead to each ground terminal. DVOM should indicate less than one volt. If reading is greater than one volt, check for open, corrosion or loose connection on ground circuit.
