Shift Interlock & Ignition Relay

NOTE: For circuit reference, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  and WIRING DIAGRAMS  . For identification of circuits related to this system, but not shown, see appropriate POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING SYSTEM under ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  1. Check for continuity between terminal No. 85 and all other terminals. For terminal identification, see Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less between terminal No. 85 and any other terminal, replace relay. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, continue with test.
  2. Using two jumper wires, connect relay terminals No. 86 and 30 directly to the positive battery terminal. Check for voltage at terminal No. 87A. If battery voltage is not indicated, replace the relay. If battery voltage is indicated, connect a third jumper wire to terminal No. 85, and ground the jumper wire to a known good ground. Check for voltage at terminal No. 87. If battery voltage is not indicated, replace the relay.
