Drive Mode 4 - EVAP System Repair Verification

  1. Ensure following conditions are met:
    • Barometric pressure is 69.7 kPa or more.
    • Engine coolant temperature is 14-X°F (-10-X°C). X = engine coolant temperature upper limit as determined by barometric pressure indicated in illustration. See Fig 1.
    • Fuel Tank Level (FTL) PID V is 1.3-3.75 volts.
    • Intake air temperature is 14-140°F (-10-60°C).
  2. Ensure all electrical accessory loads are off. Start and operate engine at 3500 RPM and warm up to normal operating temperature. Operate vehicle as specified. See Fig 2.
  3. Stop vehicle and access ON BOARD SYSTEM READINESS menu of GENERIC OBD II FUNCTIONS to check drive mode completion status. RFC should change from NO to YES when test is complete.
  4. If test is not complete, turn ignition switch off and go to step  1. If test is complete, go to next step.
  5. Check test results in DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS menu of GENERIC OBD II FUNCTIONS. If results are okay (MEAS are within specification), go to next step. If results are not okay (MEAS are not within specification), repairs are not complete.
  6. Verify DTCs are not present. If DTCs are not present, repairs are complete.

NOTE: If Drive Mode 4 - EVAP System Repair Verification cannot be performed (vehicle cannot be driven under conditions specified for this test), perform evaporative system test procedure as an alternative. See FUEL EVAPORATIVE SYSTEM - EXCEPT MPV in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - MIATA, MILLENIA, MPV, PROTEGE, PROTEGE5 & 626 article. Mode 5 can be performed regardless of RFC flag condition.
