Diagnostic Tests: Notes
CAUTION:
DO NOT crank engine before replacement PCM is programmed to immobilizer system, or PCM will be severely damaged. If test procedures require replacement of PCM on a vehicle equipped with immobilizer system, vehicle must be sent to authorized Mazda dealer to have replacement PCM programmed.
NOTE:
Vehicle with immobilizer system can be identified by a solid urethane ignition key head.
CAUTION:
Ensure ignition is off before disconnecting harness connector from any component or control module.
NOTE:
If Powertrain Control Module (PCM) replacement is instructed in following testing, always ensure PCM connectors and ground circuits are okay. If either are suspect, repair and repeat testing to confirm PCM malfunction.
NOTE:
Check connectors within a suspect circuit for loose connection, loose female terminals, terminals pushed out of their connectors, water or terminal corrosion.
NOTE:
Self-diagnostic test procedures are for use with World Diagnostic System (WDS) scan tool. If a generic scan tool is used, ensure scan tool is certified to OBD-II standard.
