Test G: Generator Is Noisy
NOTE:
For circuit and connector identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
and CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
- Check accessory drive belt performance. Check pulleys and belt for looseness or misalignment. Repair as necessary, then retest system. If drive belt is okay, go to next step.
- Check generator mounting for loose bolts or misalignment. Adjust as necessary then retest system. If generator is securely mounted, go to next step.
- Disconnect generator connector A-168. Start engine, then turn headlights, rear defrost on, and run blower motor in HI speed. If noise is still present, then go to next step. If noise is not present, replace generator. See GENERATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Reconnect generator connector A-168, then start engine. Turn all accessories off. Use a stethoscope or similar listening device to probe generator for unusual noises. If generator is noise source, replace generator. See GENERATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If generator is not noise source, inspect other engine components for possible failure
