Ignition Timing: MPV
- Warm up engine to normal operating temperature.
- Shift transaxle into neutral.
- Turn off all electrical loads (headlights, blower fan, rear window defroster and A/C).
- Verify steering wheel is in straight ahead position.
- Short DLC-1 terminal TEN to body GND using fused jumper wire. See Figure .
- Connect scan tool to DLC-2.
- Select IGT PID. Ensure IGT PID is within specification. See IGNITION TIMING SPECIFICATIONS
table. Increase engine speed and verify IGT PID value is advanced. If IGT PID reading does not advance, inspect following:
- Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor and related harness. See CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR under ENGINE SENSORS & SWITCHES in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - MAZDA6, MIATA, MPV, PROTEGE & PROTEGE5 article.
- Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and related harness. See MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR under ENGINE SENSORS & SWITCHES in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - MAZDA6, MIATA, MPV, PROTEGE & PROTEGE5 article.
- Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor and related harness. See INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR under ENGINE SENSORS & SWITCHES in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - MAZDA6, MIATA, MPV, PROTEGE & PROTEGE5 article.
Repair as necessary and recheck timing.
