Mode 1 - PCM Adaptive Memory Produce Drive Mode

NOTE: PCM adaptive memory status can be confirmed with RFCFLAG PID. If RFCFLAG PID is ON, procedure is complete, Mode 1 is not necessary, PCM already has adaptive memory. If RFCFLAG PID is OFF, perform following procedure before performing EGR monitor repair verification drive mode or HO2S/TWC monitor repair verification drive mode.
  1. Start engine and warm up to normal operating temperature. Ensure following conditions are met:
    • All accessory loads (A/C, headlights, blower fan, rear window defroster) are off.
    • Initial ignition timing and idle speed are within specification.
    • TEN and GND terminals of DLC-1 are not connected.
Adjust as necessary. See BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES article.
  2. Operate engine at 2500-3500 RPM for more than 15 seconds. Idle engine for more than 20 seconds after cooling fan stops. Using scan tool, monitor RPM PID for engine speed and FAN DUTY PID for cooling fan status.
  3. Turn ignition off and back on. Using scan tool, access RFCFLAG PID to confirm PCM adaptive memory status. If RFCFLAG PID is ON, procedure is complete. If RFCFLAG PID is OFF, go back to step  1.
