Mode 4 - EVAP System Repair Verification Drive Mode
- Ensure following conditions are met. All conditions must be within specification before engine is started to initiate evaporative system test.
- Barometric pressure: 20.5 in. Hg (69.7 kPa) or more.
- Engine coolant temperature: 14-X°F (-10-X°C). X = engine coolant temperature upper limit as determined by barometric pressure shown in graph. See Figure.
- Fuel tank level: 1.3-3.75 volts.
- Intake air temperature: 14-131°F (-10-55°C).
- Ensure all accessory loads (A/C, headlights, blower fan, rear window defroster) are off.
- Start engine and race at 3500 RPM and warm up completely.
- Operate vehicle as shown in graph. See Fig 1.
- Stop vehicle and access ON BOARD SYSTEM READINESS menu of GENERIC OBD II FUNCTIONS to check drive mode completion status. RFC FLAG should change from NO to YES if drive mode is completed.
- If drive mode is not completed, turn ignition switch off and go back to step 1.
- Access DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS menu of GENERIC OBD II FUNCTION. If MEAS are not within specification, repairs are not completed.
- Verify DTCs are not present.
NOTE:
If Drive Mode 5 - EVAP System Repair Verification cannot be performed (vehicle cannot be driven under conditions specified for this test), perform evaporative system test procedure as an alternative. See FUEL EVAPORATIVE SYSTEM (EXCEPT MIATA & MPV)
in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - MAZDA6, MIATA, MPV, PROTEGE & PROTEGE5 article. Mode 5 can be performed regardless of RFC FLAG condition.
