Generator No Load Test

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Switch battery tester to voltmeter function.
  2. Connect positive lead to generator battery terminal wire (Black/Orange wire). Connect negative lead to ground.
  3. With the engine running at 2000 RPM, check the generator output voltage. The voltage should be between 13.0 and 15.0 volts. If voltage output is 13-15 volts, generator is operating normally. If output is not 13-15 volts, diagnose by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS.
