MIL/TCIL NEVER ON AND MIL/TCIL ALWAYS ON INSPECTION/ACTION CHART

STEP	INSPECTION		ACTION
1	WHICH WARNING INDICATOR IS CONCERN ASSOCIATED WITH? Is the symptom associated with the MIL or TCIL warning lamps?	Yes	Go to next step.
1		No	Service as required. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND PANEL ILLUMINATION .
2	PRELIMINARY CHECKS Perform the following preliminary checks: Electrical connections. System components relating to warning indicator. Verify fuel filler cap is properly tightened. Are all checks OK?	Yes	Go to next step.
2		No	Service as required. After repair, if no other symptoms are present, Rerun Quick Test. See PCM QUICK TEST .
3	CHECK SYSTEM INDICATOR LAMPS Is the symptom "TCIL never on" or "MIL never on" (this includes MIL never on during bulb check when the engine is first started)?	Yes	For TCIL Never On: See SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING CHART -- AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SHIFT CONTROL . For MIL Never On: See TEST 2: MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP (MIL) .
3		No	Go to next step.
4	CHECK ENGINE OPERATION Does engine start?	Yes	Go to next step.
4	CHECK ENGINE OPERATION Does engine start?	No	See DIAGNOSTIC INDEX .
5	CHECK ENGINE IDLE IN PARK OR NEUTRAL Does engine idle rough in Park or Neutral?	Yes	See ENGINE POOR DRIVABILITY .
5		No	Go to next step.
6	PERFORM PCM QUICK TEST See PCM QUICK TEST . Are any DTCs displayed during Continuous Memory Self-Tests, Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO) or Key ON, Engine Running (KOER)?	Yes	Check for cause. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE NUMBERS .
6		No	Go to next step.
7	CHECK SYMPTOM INDICATOR WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING Is the MIL or TCIL always on with the engine running?	Yes	For MIL always on: See TEST 2: MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP (MIL) . See SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING CHART -- AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SHIFT CONTROL .
7		No	Go to next step.
8	Verify test results. If OK, see DIAGNOSTIC INDEX to service any additional symptoms.
