Pinpoint Test 8: Flash Code 4 - Clutch/Neutral Switch Circuit Failure
PINPOINT TEST 8: FLASH CODE 4 - CLUTCH/NEUTRAL SWITCH CIRCUIT FAILURE
| PINPOINT TEST 8 | FLASH CODE 4 - CLUTCH/NEUTRAL SWITCH CIRCUIT FAILURE | ||
|---|---|---|---|
| STEP | INSPECTION | ACTION | |
| 1 | VERIFY FLASH CODE 4 Key OFF. Disconnect the speed control actuator 0120-101. Key ON. Apply the clutch. Measure the resistance between the cruise control actuator 0120-101 pin 2, circuit (LB/Y), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? |
Yes | INSTALL a new cruise control actuator. See SPEED CONTROL ACTUATOR . TEST the system for normal operation. |
| No | If automatic transaxle, GO to the next step. If manual transaxle, GO to step 4. |
||
| 2 | CHECK THE TRANSMISSION RANGE (TR) SENSOR Fully apply the parking brake. Key OFF. Disconnect the TR sensor 0119-03 Position the gearshift selector in NEUTRAL. Measure the resistance between the TR sensor 0119-03 pin 9, component side and the TR sensor 0119-03 pin 4, component side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? |
Yes | GO to the next step. |
| No | INSTALL a new TR sensor. See TRANSAXLE RANGE (TR) SENSOR . REPEAT the self-test. | ||
| 3 | CHECK THE TR SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT Place the gearshift selector in PARK. Measure the resistance between the TR sensor 0119-03 pin 1, circuit (B), harness side and ground. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? |
Yes | REPAIR circuit (LB/Y). REPEAT the self-test. |
| No | REPAIR circuit (B). REPEAT the self-test. | ||
| 4 | CHECK THE CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION (CPP) SWITCH Fully apply the parking brake. Key OFF. Disconnect the CPP Switch 0120-103 Measure the resistance between the CPP switch 0120-103 pin 2, component side and the CPP switch 0120-103 pin 4, component side while applying the clutch pedal. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? |
Yes | GO to the next step. |
| No | INSTALL a new CPP switch. See EXTERNAL CONTROLS . REPEAT the self-test. | ||
| 5 | CHECK CIRCUIT (LB/Y) FOR AN OPEN Measure the resistance between the cruise control actuator 0120-101 pin 2, circuit (LB/Y), harness side and the CPP switch 0120-103 pin 4, circuit (LB/Y), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? |
Yes | GO to the next step. |
| No | REPAIR the circuit. REPEAT the self-test. | ||
| 6 | CHECK CIRCUIT (GY/R) FOR AN OPEN Disconnect the PCM 0140-175b/275b Measure the resistance between the CPP switch 0120-103 pin 2, circuit (GY/R), harness side and the PCM 0140-175b/275b pin 41, circuit (GY/R), harness side. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? |
Yes | GO to the next step. |
| No | REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation. | ||
| 7 | CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM MODULE OPERATION Disconnect the PCM connectors. Check for:
Connect the PCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present. Is the concern still present? |
Yes | INSTALL a new PCM. See
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)
. TEST the system for normal operation. |
| No | The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. |
