  • No Crank
STARTING CONCERNS INSPECTION/ACTION CHART

STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 PRELIMINARY CHECKS
  • Perform the following preliminary checks:
    • Battery connections.
    • Starter relay connections.
    • Transaxle in Park (A/T) or Neutral (M/T).
    • Clutch fully depressed (M/T).
    • Alarm/anti-theft devices.
    • Fuses/fuse links.
  • Are all the checks OK? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Repair as necessary.
Verify symptom no longer exists.
2 LISTEN FOR STARTER RELAY "CLICKING"
  • Is a "clicking" sound heard from the starter relay when the ignition key is turned to START? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Go to step 5.
3 CHECK STARTING SYSTEM SECONDARY CIRCUITS Yes Repair as required.
No Go to next step.
4 CHECK BASE ENGINE
  • Check for base engine concerns (such as seized/hydro-locked engine, damaged flywheel).
  • Is a fault indicated? 
Yes Repair as required.
No Verify test results.
See DIAGNOSTIC INDEX  to repair any additional symptoms.
5 CHECK OPERATION OF OTHER ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIES
  • Do any other electrical accessories work? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Check the charging system.
See SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING CHART - CHARGING SYSTEM  .
6 PERFORM PCM KOEO SELF-TEST. ALSO RETRIEVE ANY CONTINUOUS MEMORY DTCS.
  • Are any DTCs displayed during Continuous Memory DTCs or Key On Engine Off (KOEO) Self-Tests? 
Yes Check for cause.
See SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING CHART - CHARGING SYSTEM  .
No Go to next step.
7 CHECK STARTING SYSTEM PRIMARY CIRCUITS
  • Check the starting system primary circuits as follows:
    • See appropriate article in ENGINES to check starter relay, brake interlock switch, ignition switch or other checks as directed.
    • See appropriate article in TRANSAXLE/TRANSMISSION to check transaxle linkage adjustment, TR sensor adjustment, CPP switch or other checks as directed.
  • Are components/systems OK? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Service as required.

  • Perform After Repair Procedure to ensure customer's concern has been resolved.
