SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING CHART - STARTING SYSTEM

Problem	Possible Cause	Action
The engine does not crank	Battery. Fuse(s). Starter motor. Circuitry. Starter motor relay. Anti-theft system. Digital TR sensor.	See PINPOINT TEST 1: THE ENGINE DOES NOT CRANK OR THE RELAY CLICKS .
The engine cranks slowly	Battery. Starter motor. Circuitry.	CARRY OUT the Starter Motor Component Test and the Battery Condition Test. See PINPOINT TEST 8: BATTERY CONDITION TEST .
Unusual starter noise	Starter motor mounting. Starter motor. Incorrect starter drive engagement.	See PINPOINT TEST 2: UNUSUAL STARTER NOISE .
The starter spins but the engine does not crank	Starter motor.	INSPECT the starter motor mounting and engagement. REPAIR as necessary.
The starter spins but the engine does not crank	Damaged flywheel/ring gear teeth.	INSPECT the flywheel/ring gear for damaged, missing or worn teeth. REPAIR as necessary.
