Engine/Engine Controls - Engine Replacement Information

Bulletin No: 01-045/09

Last Issued: 10/07/2009

Subject:
SERVICE POINT FOR REPLACING ENGINE BLOCK

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2010 Mazda3 vehicles (L5 engine)
with VINs lower than JM1 BL**** ** 180030 (produced before July 1, 2009)

DESCRIPTION

The crankshaft has been modified due to material/production change of the engine block. Therefore, when the engine block is replaced with a modified one, make sure to replace the crankshaft with a modified one and reprogram the PCM. Also, when a short engine is replaced with a modified one, make sure to reprogram the PCM.

NOTE:
When only the crankshaft is replaced, replacement of the engine block and reprogramming of the PCM are not necessary as the pre-modified crankshaft (L505-11-300) is available as a service part.

For reprogramming, use IDS 61.15 and later or 62.03 and later software.
