Line Pressure Test

NOTE:
  • Use a suitable oil pressure gauge that corresponds to the line pressure because the maximum scale value differs depending on the oil pressure gauge.
  1. Remove the aerodynamic under cover. (See AERODYNAMIC UNDER COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  2. Prepare for the line pressure test. (See LINE PRESSURE TEST PREPARATION .)
  3. Prepare for the mechanical system test. (See MECHANICAL SYSTEM TEST PREPARATION .)
  4. Measure the line pressure while idling in the D position.
    1. Remove the pressure detection square head plug.

      WARNING:
      • Do not remove the square head plug when the ATF temperature is high. Otherwise, ATF could overflow and cause severe burns or serious injury. Remove the square head plug when the transaxle and ATF temperature are low.
    2. Install the SSTs (49 D019 910, 49 D019 911, 49 D019 913, 49 D019 909, 49 D019 908)  to the pressure detection port as shown below.

    3. Apply the parking brake firmly and set the wheel blocks to the front and rear wheels.
    4. Start the engine.
    5. Warm up the engine until the ATF temperature is 60-70°C {140-158°F}  .
    6. Shift the selector lever to the D position.
    7. Measure the line pressure while idling.
  5. Measure the line pressure while idling in each position in the same procedure.
  6. Stop the engine.
  7. Measure the line pressure while stalling in the D position.
    1. Replace the oil pressure gauge of the SST as follows:
      • Remove the SST (49 D019 908)  and replace the SST (49 D019 907)  .

    2. Start the engine.
    3. Strongly depress the brake pedal with the left foot.
    4. Shift the selector lever to the D position.
      CAUTION:
      • To prevent damage to the transaxle, measure the line pressure (Step ( 5)-( 6)) within 5 s while stalling.
    5. Depress the accelerator pedal with the right foot all the way down slowly.
    6. Read the line pressure quickly while stalling, and remove the right foot from the accelerator pedal.
    7. Shift the selector lever to the N position and idle for 1 min or more.
  8. Measure the line pressure while stalling for each position in the same procedure.
    • If there is any malfunction, one of the following malfunctions may have occurred:
    Condition Possible cause
    Lower than specification Lower in R, D, and M (1GR, 2GR) positions Oil pump wear
    ATF leakage from oil pump, control valve, and transaxle case
    Pressure regulator valve sticking
    Pressure control solenoid A malfunction
    Lower in D and M (1GR, 2GR) positions ATF leakage from forward clutch hydraulic circuit
    Lower in M (2GR) position ATF leakage from 2-4 brake band connection hydraulic circuit
    Lower in R and M (1GR) positions ATF leakage from low and reverse brake hydraulic circuit
    Lower in R position ATF leakage from reverse clutch hydraulic circuit
    Higher than specification Higher in R, D, and M (1GR, 2GR) positions Pressure regulator valve sticking
    Pressure control solenoid A malfunction

    Line pressure

    Measurement conditions Specification (kPa {kgf/cm2 , psi})
    Idling R position 490-710 {5.00-7.23, 71.1-102.0}
    D and M (1GR, 2GR) positions 330-470 {3.37-4.79, 47.9-68.1}
    Stalling R position 1, 850-2, 120 {18.87-21.61, 268.4-307.4}
    D and M (1GR, 2GR) positions 1, 200-1, 320 {12.24-13.46, 174.1-191.4}
  9. Stop the engine.
  10. Remove the SSTs  .
    WARNING:
    • If the SSTs is removed when the ATF temperature is high, ATF could overflow and cause severe burns or serious injury. Remove the SSTs when the transaxle and ATF temperature is low.
  11. Install a new square head plug.
    NOTE:
    • Do not reuse the square head plug because a sealant coating is applied.
