Rear Abs Wheel-Speed Sensor Removal/Installation: Notes

  1. Switch the ignition ON (engine off).
  2. Release the electric parking brake.
  3. Switch the ignition OFF while pressing the electric parking brake switch.
  4. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(US)] .)
  5. For the 4SD, remove the following parts:
    1. Trunk covering (See TRUNK COVERING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    2. Trunk board (See TRUNK BOARD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(US)] .)
    3. Trunk end trim (See TRUNK END TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  6. For the 5HB, remove the following parts:
    1. Trunk covering (See TRUNK COVERING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    2. Trunk board (See TRUNK BOARD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(US)] .)
    3. Trunk end trim (See TRUNK END TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
    4. Trunk side upper trim (See TRUNK SIDE UPPER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  7. Partially peel back the trunk side trim to a position where the rear ABS wheel speed sensor connector can be disconnected. (See TRUNK SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(US)] .)

  8. For the 5HB or 4SD (RH), remove the trunk side insulator. (See TRUNK SIDE INSULATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  9. Remove the clip from the body.

  10. Disconnect the rear ABS wheel-speed sensor connector.
  11. Press the grommet tabs in the direction of arrows (1) shown in the figure and detach them from the vehicle body.

  12. Press the grommet in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure and press out the rear ABS wheel-speed sensor toward the outside of the vehicle.
  13. Remove the wheel and tire. (See WHEEL AND TIRE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  14. Remove in the order indicated in the table.
  15. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  16. After installation, verify that there is no twisting in the rear ABS wheel-speed sensor.
