Reusing Windshield
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION [(US)] .)
- Remove the following parts:
- Windshield wiper arm and blade (See WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM AND BLADE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Cowl grille (See COWL GRILLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Windshield wiper motor (See WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR AND LINK REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Front fender molding (See FRONT FENDER MOLDING REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- A-pillar trim (See A-PILLAR TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(US)] .)
- Sunvisor (See SUNVISOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Front map light (See FRONT MAP LIGHT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [(US)] .)
- Assist handle (front) (See ASSIST HANDLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Sensor cover (See SENSOR COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Disconnect the rain sensor connector. (See RAIN SENSOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Disconnect the forward sensing camera (FSC) connector. (with forward sensing camera (FSC)) (See FORWARD SENSING CAMERA (FSC) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Disconnect the auto-dimming rearview mirror connector. (with auto-dimming rearview mirror) (See AUTO-DIMMING REARVIEW MIRROR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Set the headliner out of the way.
- Disconnect the windshield wiper de-icer connector. (with windshield wiper de-icer)
- Remove the windshield wiper de-icer wiring harness from the hooks. (with windshield wiper de-icer)
- Remove the wiring harness clip. (with windshield wiper de-icer)
- Apply protective tape along the edge of the body.CAUTION:
- Overlap and adhere the protective tape to the corners to prevent damage.
WARNING:- Always wear gloves when using a utility knife. Using a utility knife with bare hands can cause injury.
- Using a utility knife, cut the windshield molding shown in the figure.
- Cut the tip of the piano wire diagonally.WARNING:
- Using piano wire with bare hands can cause injury. Always wear gloves when using piano wire.
- Pass the piano wire through from the cabin side.
- Wind each end of piano wire around a bar.NOTE:
- Use a long sawing action to spread the work over the whole length of piano wire to prevent it from breaking due to localized heating.
- Secure the piano wire on the cabin side, and pull the wire on the other side (vehicle exterior) in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure to cut the windshield sealant.
- Cut the sealant around the windshield.CAUTION:
- After the piano wire reaches pin A position, pull out the piano wire and re-insert it at the position avoiding pin A.
- After the piano wire reaches pin B position, cut the sealant while verifying that pin B and the piano wire do not contact each other.
- Secure one end of piano wire, and while pulling the other end, cut the sealant around the windshield.
- Pinch pin A from the inside of the vehicle and detach it from the body panel.
- Remove the windshield.
- When replacing pin B, remove pin B.NOTE:
- Before removing pin B from the windshield glass, place an alignment mark on the windshield.
