Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Removal/Installation: Notes

CAUTION:

If foreign matter such as metal shaving adhere to the CKP sensor, it can cause abnormal output from the sensor because of flux turbulence, which can negatively affect the engine control. Verify that there is no foreign matter on the CKP sensor when replacing.
When replacing the CKP sensor with a new one, perform the CKP sensor learning value clearing procedure to clear the learning value stored in the PCM. If the stored learning value is not cleared, the engine performance may not function at its full capability. (See CKP SENSOR LEARNING VALUE CLEARING PROCEDURE .)

Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
Lift up the vehicle.
Remove the following parts for easier access.
1. Front under cover No. 2 (See FRONT UNDER COVER No. 2 REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
2. Front splash shield (RH) (See SPLASH SHIELD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
Disconnect the CKP sensor connector.
Remove the CKP sensor.

Install in the reverse order of removal.
When replacing the CKP sensor with a new one, clear the learning value. (See CKP SENSOR LEARNING VALUE CLEARING PROCEDURE .)
