SUBJECT

REPLACEMENT OF DRIVE AUTHORIZATION SYSTEM (DAS) CONTROL MODULE (N73/1)

SERVICE INFORMATION

To ensure client satisfaction, it is recommended that each retailer please contact clients of affected vehicles and arrange for this campaign to be performed as soon as possible. There are only 636 affected vehicles, VMI MUST be checked before performing campaign to determine if vehicle is affected. Refer below for the replacement Procedure for the DAS control module (N73/1).

NOTE: As usual, each retailer will be sent a list of the affected vehicles sold at his location. The list will be sent via MBNet and is based on the information currently in our system.

CONDITION

An intermittent "no start" condition (engine cranks briefly) may occur due to poor contact at terminal 13 of the DAS control module (N73/1). Diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's) which may be present, and the control modules where they are stored, are listed below (VMI MUST be checked before replacing DAS control module):

PROCEDURE

NOTE:
  • The drive authorization system (DAS) control module (N73/1) is housed within the extended activity module (EAM [N10/1]).
  • The DAS control module (N73/1) may also be referenced as drive authorization module (DAM) in the Star Diagnosis system.
  1. Ensure ignition switch is in position "0" (OFF).
  2. Remove left under dash panel.
  3. Unclip extended activity module (EAM [N10/1]) retaining latch (1, Fig 1 ).

  4. Pull downward on EAM (2, Fig 1 ) until the DAS control module locking tabs (3, Fig 2 ) are accessible.
  5. Insert radio removal tools (4, Fig 2 ) under DAS control module locking tabs (3).
  6. Press inward on ring end of radio removal tools simultaneously to release locking tabs and then pull DAS control module (5, Fig 2 ) free from the EAM (2).
    CAUTION: Do not spread locking tabs excessively, or breakage may result.

  7. Insert new DAS control module (5, Fig 2 ) into EAM (2) until locking tabs (3) on EAM lock into place.
    NOTE: Radio removal tools (4, Fig 2 ) are not required when installing DAS control module.
  8. Install EAM back into mounting brackets then clip retaining latch (1, Fig 1 ) back into lock position.
  9. Reinstall removed components in reverse order.
  10. Read out and erase any relevant DTCs using the Star Diagnosis system.
