ECM FLASHING PROCESS CHANGE AND INTRODUCTION OF MONTHLY DISTRIBUTION OF SDFLASH RELEASE CDs

SERVICE INFORMATION

With this star bulletin we would like to inform you of a change in process of how certain electronic control modules (ECMs) are flashed using Star Diagnosis.

Currently there are two processes for the flashing of ECMs installed in Mercedes-Benz products. Certain system ECMs are flashed using information kept on the hard drive of the Star Diagnosis machine, while other system ECMs are flashed using a separate SDflash Release CD.

Starting with DAS Release 09/03 the ECMs listed on the attached table will be flashed utilizing a separate SDflash Release CD which will be distributed on a monthly basis.

The first monthly SDflash Release CD (Release 000 448 81 02/0003) will be distributed in early October 2003 and subsequent SDflash CDs will be distributed on a monthly basis.

NOTE:

On occasion there will be a special SDflash Release CD distributed to address a specific technical issue that is outlined in a DTB. Please ensure that all relevant DTBs are reviewed prior to using any SDflash Release CD to assure proper applicability.
Additional ECM applicability will be added to SDFlash CDs on future releases.

The tables shown in Fig 1 show the flashware available on the SDflash Release CD:
