  Driver/front passenger emergency tensioning retractor, purpose In the event of a collision (head-on or rear end collision), the emergency tensioning retractor ensures that the seat belt is positioned tightly around the passenger.
The tight seat belt causes the vehicle passenger to start decelerating with the body of the car earlier.
 
  Driver/front passenger emergency tensioning retractor, design The emergency tensioning retractors for the driver and front passenger are rack and pinion emergency tensioning retractors with built-in torsion rod for limitation of the force. The emergency tensioning retractors are actuated by the driver ETR ignition squib (R12/1) or front passenger ETR ignition squib (R12/2).
