SERVICE INFORMATION
19/99-1 RECALLS AND SERVICE CAMPAIGNS: WHEN REPAIRING ANY VEHICLE, ALWAYS CHECK THE VEHICLE MASTER INQUIRY FOR OPEN CAMPAIGNS
19/99-2 GROUP 54 - MODEL S430 AND S500, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER: In case of complaints of instrument cluster backlighting defects, clock/gear shift indicator display illegible, or other instrument cluster defects, the production code on the instrument cluster should be checked. The instrument cluster has been improved as of approximately 4/15/99 vehicle production date. Improved clusters may be identified by removing the cluster and checking the bar code label on the top of the cluster. If the date code is 3/26/99 or higher, then the cluster is the improved version.
In the event that any defect occurs with the improved version instrument cluster, please notify your Regional Technical Coordinator. Pilot Retailers on the Technical Information Reporting System / EWS should report any failures of the improved version cluster by turning in a report. The defective cluster should be retained for return to Service Engineering if requested. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO REPORT FAILURES OF INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS OF THE PREVIOUS VERSION. Please use Damage Code 54202 73.
