Left Cylinder Bank CMP Sensor (B6/2)

NOTE: Left cylinder bank Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor (B6/2) is located at top front of engine between left and right adjustable camshaft timing solenoids. Adjustable camshaft timing solenoids are located at front of cylinder head. Right Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor (B6/3) and left CMP sensor (B6/2) are located next to each other. The left CMP sensor (B6/2) is positioned nearest to passenger fender. For ME-SFI control module location and identification, see ME-SFI CONTROL MODULE CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  .
NOTE: Manufacturer recommends checking camshaft hall-effect sensor signal using an oscilloscope. If an oscilloscope is not available, testing can be performed with a DVOM.
  1. Left CMP Sensor Signal (Testing With Oscilloscope) -  Connect oscilloscope between left cylinder bank ME-SFI control module connector 2 terminals No. 87 and 66 (socket box terminals No. 87 and 66). Observe oscilloscope with engine idling. See SIGNAL PATTERN IDENTIFICATION  .
  2. If voltage signal is okay, test is complete. If voltage signal is not okay, possible cause is left cylinder bank CMP sensor (B6/2) defective. Before replacing left cylinder bank CMP sensor (B6/2), check voltage supply. Go to step  4 . If voltage supply is okay, replace defective left cylinder bank CMP sensor (B6/2).
  3. Left CMP Sensor Signal (Testing With DVOM) -  Connect DVOM between left cylinder bank ME-SFI control module connector 2 terminal No. 66 (socket box terminal No. 66) and left cylinder bank ME-SFI control module connector 1 terminal No. 25 (socket box terminal No. 25). Observe DVOM with engine idling. Voltage should be 1.3-1.7 volts. Voltage will vary slightly. If voltage is okay, test is complete. If voltage is not okay, possible cause is wiring harness failure. Repair as necessary.
NOTE: Wire color information for next step is not available.
  4. Left CMP Sensor Voltage Supply -  Disconnect left cylinder bank CMP sensor. Turn ignition on. Connect DVOM between left cylinder bank CMP sensor (B6/2) connector (harness side) terminals No. 1 and 3. Voltage should be 11-14 volts. If voltage is within specification, test is complete. If voltage is not within specification, possible cause is wiring harness failure. Repair as necessary.
