Left/Right O2 Sensor Before TWC
- Left O2 Sensor Before TWC (G3/3 - O2 Signal) - Connect DVOM between ME-SFI control module connector "C" terminals No. 34 and 33 (socket box terminals No. 26 and 25). Start engine and idle. Allow engine to idle for at least 2 minutes after engine coolant temperature reaches more than 176°F (80°C). Voltage should fluctuate by more than .3 volts between -.2 volts and one volt. If voltage is okay, test is complete. If voltage is not okay, possible causes are left O2 sensor (before TWC) heater failure, wiring harness failure or defective left O2 sensor (before TWC - G3/3). To check left O2 sensor (before TWC) heater failure, go to next step.
- Left O2 Sensor Before TWC (G3/3 - O2 Sensor Heater Actuation) - Connect DVOM between ME-SFI control module connector "A" terminals No. 1 and 2 (socket box terminals No. 1 and 2). Start engine and idle. Allow engine to idle for at least 2 minutes after engine coolant temperature reaches more than 176°F (80°C). Voltage should be 11-14 volts. If voltage is within specification, go to next step. If voltage is not within specification, possible causes are wiring harness failure, O2 sensor (G3/3) failure or defective ME-SFI control module (N3/10).
- Left O2 Sensor Before TWC (G3/3 - O2 Sensor Heater Current Consumption) - Turn ignition off. Disconnect ME-SFI control module connector "A". Connect ammeter between ME-SFI control module connector "A" terminals No. 3 and 1 (socket box terminals No. 3 and 1). Turn ignition on. Ammeter should indicate 1-4.5 amps. If amperage is within specification, test is complete. If amperage is not within specification, possible causes are wiring harness failure, O2 sensor (G3/3) failure or defective ME-SFI control module (N3/10). Repair as necessary.
- Right O2 Sensor Before TWC (G3/4 - O2 Signal) - Connect DVOM between ME-SFI control module connector "C" terminals No. 31 and 32 (socket box terminals No. 23 and 24). Start engine and idle. Allow engine to idle for at least 2 minutes after engine coolant temperature reaches more than 176°F (80°C). Voltage should fluctuate by more than .3 volts between -.2 volts and one volt. If voltage is okay, test is complete. If voltage is not okay, possible causes are right O2 sensor (before TWC) heater failure, wiring harness failure or defective right O2 sensor (before TWC - G3/4). To check right O2 sensor (before TWC) heater failure, go to next step.
- Right O2 Sensor Before TWC (G3/4 - O2 Sensor Heater Actuation) - Connect DVOM between ME-SFI control module connector "A" terminals No. 5 and 2 (socket box terminals No. 5 and 2). Start engine and idle. Allow engine to idle for at least 2 minutes after engine coolant temperature reaches more than 176°F (80°C). Voltage should be 11-14 volts. If voltage is within specification, go to next step. If voltage is not within specification, possible causes are wiring harness failure, O2 sensor (G3/4) failure or defective ME-SFI control module (N3/10).
- Right O2 Sensor Before TWC (G3/4 - O2 Sensor Heater Current Consumption) - Turn ignition off. Disconnect ME-SFI control module connector "A". Connect ammeter between ME-SFI control module connector "A" terminals No. 3 and 5 (socket box terminals No. 3 and 5). Turn ignition on. Ammeter should indicate 1-4.5 amps. If amperage is within specification, test is complete. If amperage is not within specification, possible causes are wiring harness failure, O2 sensor (G3/4) failure or defective ME-SFI control module (N3/10). Repair as necessary.
