Drive Authorization System (DAS)

NOTE: Diagnostic information applies to 2001-02 models with 3.2L engine (No. 112), equipped with Motor Electronics Sequential Fuel Injection (ME-SFI). Diagnostic information in this article does not apply to all models with engine number 112. Diagnostic information for 2.6L engine (No. 112) is not available. For diagnostic information availability, see MODEL IDENTIFICATION (2001-02)  table.

DAS is activated from DAS control module through the Controller Area Network (CAN) data bus to the ME-SFI control module. When DAS is activated, ME-SFI control module renders fuel injection system inoperative. See DAS VERSION  table to identify model/version usage.

CLK320, E320 & ML320 DAS 3

DAS 3 activation or deactivation is accomplished with the electronic key. When electronic key is inserted into the ignition lock, DAS 3 control module is activated. Locking or unlocking vehicle using mechanical key has no effect on DAS. The ME-SFI control module and DAS control module are "married" to one another with identification codes. Identification codes cannot be erased. Switching ME-SFI control module or DAS modules form one vehicle to another is not possible. If an exchange ME-SFI control module is installed for test purposes, up to 40 start attempts can be performed before ME-SFI control module and DAS control modules "marry" to one another. Prior to performing first engine start, ME-SFI control module must be version coded to vehicle using scan tool. See VERSION CODING .
