Crankshaft Position Sensor (L5)

NOTE: Manufacturer recommends checking CKP sensor signal using an oscilloscope. If an oscilloscope is not available, testing can be performed with a DVOM.
  1. CKP Sensor Signal (Testing With Oscilloscope) -  Connect oscilloscope between ME-SFI control module connector "E" terminals No. 37 and 38 (socket box terminals No. 93 and 94). Observe oscilloscope while operating starter. See Fig 1 .

  2. Start engine and idle. Observe oscilloscope while engine is idling. Increase engine speed. When engine speed is increased, voltage should increase. If voltage signal (at idle) is not okay or voltage does not increase with increase in engine speed, possible cause is teeth on driver are damaged or missing. Repair as necessary.
  3. CKP Sensor Signal (Testing With DVOM) -  Connect DVOM between ME-SFI control module connector "E" terminals No. 37 and 38 (socket box terminals No. 93 and 94). Observe DVOM while operating starter. Voltage should be more than 2 volts.
  4. Start engine and idle. Observe DVOM while engine is idling. Voltage should be more than 5 volts. Increase engine speed. When engine speed is increased, voltage should increase. If voltage (at idle) is not okay or voltage does not increase with increase in engine speed, possible cause is teeth on driver are damaged or missing. Repair as necessary.
  5. CKP Sensor Resistance -  Turn ignition off. Disconnect ME-SFI control module connector "E". Connect DVOM between ME-SFI control module connector "E" terminals No. 37 and 38 (socket box terminals No. 93 and 94). See CKP SENSOR RESISTANCE  table. If resistance is within specification, test is complete. If resistance is not within specification, possible causes are wiring harness failure or CKP sensor defective. Repair as necessary.
