Function

If the front passenger seat is occupied by a person, the pressure load of the seat area increases. This pressure load is sensed by the integrated force sensing resistors in the seat cushion and forwarded to the restraint systems control unit (N2/7). On vehicles up to 31.5.07, the restraint systems control unit then activates or deactivates the relevant restraint equipment of the passenger side.

On vehicles as of 1.6.07, the information does not have any influence on the airbag activation. The front passenger seat occupied recognition only operates as a front passenger seat occupied/not occupied switch for the seat belt reminder warning.
