Head-on collision, function - GF91.60-P-2006T

MODEL 211.0/2

Head-on collision

The restraint systems control unit (N2/7) evaluates the data from the following components to determine the severity of the impact:

Depending on the severity of the impact and the situation in the vehicle, the following squibs for the corresponding restraint devices are actuated:

The following information is evaluated for monitoring the situation in the vehicle interior:

Left front seat belt buckle status

If the driver seat belt buckle restraint systems switch (S68/3) detects that a belt latch has not been inserted into the seat belt buckle, then instead of the left front emergency tensioning retractor unit or the buckle emergency tensioning retractor unit, the driver airbag unit is deployed with an advanced triggering point.

Right front seat belt buckle status

If the front passenger seat belt buckle restraint systems switch (S68/4) detects that a belt latch has not been inserted into the seat belt buckle, then instead of the right front emergency tensioning retractor unit or the right front buckle emergency tensioning retractor unit, the front passenger airbag unit is deployed with an advanced triggering point.

Front passenger seat occupation status

The restraint systems control unit uses the current assignment to decide about suppression or 1 or 2-stage actuation of the front passenger airbag unit.

IMPORTANT There is no seat belt buckle inquiry for the left and right rear seats; as a result, the rear ETR squibs are always triggered.

IMPORTANT For USA ONLY in the event of a collision and if the corresponding triggering threshold is exceeded, the restraint systems control unit additionally sends a signal to the emergency call system control unit (N123/4), and an automatic emergency call is transmitted.
