Remove/Install Starter - AR15.30-P-7100MLJ

  Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
WARNING Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts. Deburr repair panels. AS00.00-Z-0017-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Disconnect ground cable at battery   AR54.10-P-0003GZ
    Notes on battery AH54.10-P-0001-01A
2 Remove lower engine compartment paneling   AR61.30-P-1001GQ
3 Remove engine with front axle carrier Engine 157, 278 in model 166

4 Remove the engine mount heat shield    
5 Unscrew the screws at the heat shield through the starter (M1) IMPORTANT Loosen heat shield and leave in vehicle.  
6 Loosen the oil line bracket of the transmission at the oil pan    
7 Remove screws/bolts (5) of starter (M1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, starter to crankcase *BA15.30-P-1003-01J 
8 Remove starter (M1) from below NOTES
When pulling out the starter (M1) do not kink or pull any electrical line.
Electrical malfunctions can occur otherwise.
IMPORTANT The electrical line for terminal 50 (4) and the electrical line for terminal 30 (2) remain on the starter (M1).
 
9 Remove circuit 50 electrical line (4) from starter (M1) When replacing the starter (M1).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, connection for terminal designation 50

10 Pull off contact protection (3) and remove circuit 30 electrical line (2) from starter (M1) When replacing the starter (M1).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, connection for terminal designation 30

11 Check ring gear at the drive plate for wear and damage IMPORTANT Rotate engine at center Bolt, crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation.
SPECIAL TOOL Socket wrench bit
If worn or damaged

    Replace drive plate. AR03.30-P-8001MLJ
12 Install in the reverse order
