Remove/Install Right Fuel Rail - AR07.03-P-1012WA

CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of engine oil. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing engine oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

  Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel. No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking.
Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Detach battery ground line   AR54.10-P-0003W
2 Remove left and right air filter housing   AR09.10-P-1150RKA
3 Remove soundproofing from left rail    
4 Remove soundproofing from right rail (1)    
5 Relieve fuel pressure over diagnostic socket   AR07.03-P-1460-01VA 
SPECIAL TOOL Pressure hose Fig 4
6 Relieve fuel pressure over fuel system high-pressure circuit   AR07.03-P-1460-02MM 
7 Remove crash plate for high-pressure pump   AR07.02-P-1020WA 
8 Remove bracket (9)    
9 Unscrew high-pressure line (8) from right rail (1) NOTES Do not kink or bend high-pressure line (8).
Otherwise leaks and damage can occur.
 
10 Unscrew high-pressure line (8) from left rail NOTES Do not kink or bend high-pressure line (8).
Otherwise leaks and damage can occur.
 
11 Remove high-pressure line (10) NOTES Do not kink or bend high-pressure line (10).
Otherwise leaks and damage can occur.
 
12 Detach low-pressure line (4) at high-pressure pump NOTES Do not kink or bend low-pressure line (4).
Otherwise leaks and damage can occur.
 
13 Remove screw/bolt (5)    
14 Remove screw (6)    
15 Unscrew screw/bolt (7)    
16 Release and disconnect electrical connections on fuel injectors (Y76) on the right rail (1)   AR07.03-P-0004W 
17 Release and disconnect electrical connections for ignition coils at right cylinder bank   AR15.12-P-2003W
18 Remove screw/bolts (1s) by turning each one through half a turn NOTES Begin in the center of the right rail (1) and work outwards.
Otherwise damage to the right rail (1) can occur.
 
19 Remove hold-down device (3) between rail (1) and fuel injectors (Y76)    
20 Mark fuel injectors (Y76) of right rail (1) relative to the respective cylinder When reusing the fuel injectors (Y76) on the right rail (1).  
21 Detach the right rail (1) from fuel injectors (Y76) of the right rail (1)    
22 Remove Fuel injectors (Y76) of the right rail (1) IMPORTANT Engine oil which comes out during disassembly of the right rail (1) or from the fuel injectors (Y76) of the right rail (1) is safe. The right rail (1) or the fuel injectors (Y76) of the right rail (1) can be reused.
IMPORTANT Fuel injectors (Y76) of the right rail (1) must  be pulled out, since the right rail (1) can only be inserted together  with the fuel injectors (Y76) of the right rail (1).
In the case of jammed fuel injectors (Y76) on the right rail (1)

Remove fuel injectors (Y76) of the right rail (1).

CLEAN Clean     
23 Clean the fuel connections on the fuel injectors (Y76) of the right rail (1) NOTES During cleaning the fuel connections must be held downwards.
This ensures that no dirt gets into the openings.
Assembly cleaner

INSPECT Check     
24 Check high-pressure lines (8, 10) and replace if necessary   AR07.03-P-1010-03MM 
NOTES The sealing cone for the high-pressure lines (8, 10) must be checked before assembly.
Otherwise leaks and damage can occur. Assembly cleaner

INSTALLING Install     
25 Replace sealing packages for the fuel injectors (Y76) on right rail (1)   AR07.03-P-0004-02MM

26 Replace sealing rings (11) on fuel injectors (Y76) of right rail (1)    
27 Replace sealing rings (12) on fuel injectors (Y76) of right rail (1)    
28 Replace sealing rings (13) on fuel injectors (Y76) of right rail (1)   AR07.03-P-0004-01MM

29 Replace seal (2) on overflow connector of the right rail (1)    
30 During removal of marked fuel injectors (Y76) on the right rail (1), insert in the right rail (1) and fasten with hold-down tools (3) When reusing the fuel injectors (Y76) on the right rail (1).
IMPORTANT The fuel injectors (Y76) of the right rail (1) must be inserted into the cylinder in which it was previously installed.
IMPORTANT Fuel injectors (Y76) of the right rail (1) may only be installed again in combination with the right rail (1) (as a unit).
IMPORTANT Replace Hold-down tool (3).
 
31 Push new fuel injectors (Y76) of the right rail (1) into the right rail (1) and fasten with hold-down tools (3) When replacing the fuel injectors (Y76) of the right rail (1).
IMPORTANT Replace Hold-down tool (3).
IMPORTANT Fuel injectors (Y76) of the right rail (1) may only be installed again in combination with the right rail (1) (as a unit).
 
32 Push the right rail (1) with fuel injectors (Y76) of the right rail (1) into the cylinder head    
33 Screw in screw/bolts (1s) alternately each by half a revolution NOTES Begin in the center of the right rail (1) and work outwards.
Otherwise the right rail (1) will be damaged.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, fuel distributor to cylinder head cover

34 Put on and lock electrical connections for ignition coils on the right cylinder bank   AR15.12-P-2003W
35 Put on and lock electrical connections on fuel injectors (Y76) on the right rail (1)   AR07.03-P-0004W 
36 Screw in screw/bolts (7) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, fuel line service connection to cylinder head cover *BA07.03-P-1003-01D 
37 Screw in screw/bolts (6) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, fuel line holder to cylinder head cover *BA07.03-P-1004-01D 
38 Screw in screw/bolts (5) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, additional bracket for high-pressure line to high pressure pump drive housing *BA07.03-P-1006-01D 
39 Mount low-pressure line (4) on high-pressure pump NOTES Do not kink or bend low-pressure line (4). Otherwise leaks and damage can occur.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Union nut, fuel line to high-pressure pump

40 Install high-pressure line (10) NOTES Do not kink or bend high-pressure line (10). Otherwise leaks and damage can occur.

41 Mount high-pressure line (8) on left rail NOTES Do not kink or bend high-pressure line (8). Otherwise leaks and damage can occur.

47 Install soundproofing on left rail

50 Read out fault memory using the diagnostic system and clear if necessary    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-04A
INSPECT Check     
51 Check fuel high-pressure circuit for leak tightness.   AR07.03-P-1010-04MM 
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
52 Carry out an engine test run, checking the engine for proper operation and leak tightness
