Overview

This document contains information on:

General

After the engine stops. the crankshaft angle sensor stores the crankshaft angle in the rest position in the combustion engine control unit. When the engine starts, synchronization that is otherwise required is no longer necessary due to the stored crankshaft angle.

Function requirements

Function

When the engine shuts off, the combustion engine control unit starts the crankshaft angle sensor. The crankshaft Hall sensor records the crankshaft angle continuously until the rotational movement is at a standstill. The Hall sensor can also detect rotation of the crankshaft against the running direction during operation. The combustion engine control unit stores the crankshaft's angle the rest position. Upon the next engine start, the stored crankshaft angle is used as a basis for calculating the injection and firing orders. Injection and ignition take place selectively by cylinders without synchronization directly after the engine starts. If the crankshaft angle sensor fails or if the engine that has been shut off is cranked, injection and firing order are synchronized at engine start.
