Engine 260, 282 in model 118, 177, 247 

MODIFICATION NOTES

19.01.2022 Wet thread and sealing surface of fuel pressure and temperature sensor (B4/25) with engine oil. Operation step 11.

DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel. No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking.
Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by fuel spraying out at high pressure Keep all ignition sources out of hazard area. Do not carry out any work on system when it is pressurized. AS07.16-Z-0001-01A 
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
WARNING Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Relieve fuel pressure using diagnostic system   AR07.00-P-0003-01MFA 
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06MFA
2 Disconnect ground line of on-board electrical system battery (G1).   AR54.10-P-0003MFA
3 Remove upper engine cover.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Engine 260 AP01.10-P-2405-01C
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Engine 282 AP01.10-P-2405-01D
4.1 Place vent hose (3) so far to one side until electrical connector (1) on fuel pressure and temperature sensor (B4/25) is accessible. Engine 260  
4.2 Remove engine wiring harness from the fuel distributor and place to one side with the cable duct. Engine 282  
    NOTES
Do not crush or kink or subject lines to tension This would lead to damage to the lines and can impair their function.

5 Remove molded hose (2) and seal openings with suitable protective hoods. Engine 260
with code M016 (Uprated engine)

6 Release and disconnect electrical connector (1) from the fuel pressure and temperature sensor (B4/25).    
7 Clean fuel distributor in the area of the fuel pressure and temperature sensor (B4/25). NOTES
Use only lint-free materials when working on the high-pressure fuel circuit. Ensure scrupulous cleanliness.
High-pressure fuel circuit will otherwise be damaged.
 
    Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
8 Carefully release fuel pressure and temperature sensor (B4/25) somewhat and relieve remaining fuel pressure.   AR07.03-P-1460-02MM

9 Remove fuel pressure and temperature sensor (B4/25) and seal opening with a suitable stop plug. SPECIAL TOOL Engine 282 Box wrench attachment, 24_mm Fig 4

CLEAN Clean     
10 Clean sealing surfaces of the fuel pressure and temperature sensor (B4/25). NOTES
Only clean the sealing surfaces with compressed air.
Leaks can occur otherwise.
 
INSTALLING Install     
11 Install fuel pressure and temperature sensor (B4/25).    
  Note on calculation of tightening torque when using insertion or socket tools with various effective lengths   AH00.00-P-0015-01CW
REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS Authorized engine oils (service)   BB00.40-P-0226A
    IMPORTANT Wet thread and sealing surface of fuel pressure and temperature sensor (B4/25) with engine oil.
IMPORTANT Replace fuel pressure and temperature sensor (B4/25).
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Engine 282Pressure and temperature sensor to fuel distributor *BA07.04-P-1001-02D 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Engine 260Pressure and temperature sensor to fuel distributor *BA07.04-P-1001-01N

12 Connect electrical connector (1) to the fuel pressure and temperature sensor (B4/25) and lock.    
13 Remove protective covers from the molded hose (2) and install molded hose (2). Engine 260
with code M016 (Uprated engine)

14.1 Route vent hose (3) along fastening points. Engine 260  
14.2 Connect engine wiring harness to the fuel distributor. Engine 282

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Engine ground point *BA00.19-P-1002-02E 
15 Attach ground line of the on-board electrical system battery (G1).   AR54.10-P-0003MFA
INSPECT Check     
16 Connect diagnostic system.    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06MFA
17 Read out and delete fault memory.    
18 Check the fuel high-pressure circuit.   AR07.03-P-1010-04MM 
19 Disconnect diagnostic system.    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06MFA
20 Install upper engine cover.
