Collision Warning System Radar Sensor, Component Description - GF30.30-S-3311TRA
Model 447.6/7/8
With Code JA6 (Active Brake Assist System)
Shown On Model 447.813
Location
The radar sensor for the collision warning system is located at the front right rear bumper.
Task
The collision warning system radar sensor detects obstacles as well as the vehicles immediately ahead and warns the driver about any possible collision.
The collision warning system radar sensor transmits object data for collision avoiding intervention by the brake system to the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) control unit (N30/4).
The collision warning system radar sensor recognizes a collision risk and initiates an autonomous brake application.
This results in the following tasks for the collision warning system radar sensor:
- Reading in input factors
- Evaluation of input factors
- Transmission of initial parameters
Reading in input factors
The collision warning system radar sensor receives, amongst other things, the following input factors via the chassis CAN (CAN E):
- Wheel speed and wheel rotation direction
- Acceleration/yaw rate
- Steering wheel angle
- Accelerator pedal position
- Brake pedal position
- Switch position of combination switch (S4)
- Driver request over the menu settings in the IC control unit (IC) (A1/1), via user interface CAN (CAN HMI) and Gateway for user interface CAN (N93/4 (model 447.8)
- Driver request over the menu settings in the IC control unit (IC) (model 447.6/7)
The resulting functions are described in the respective function descriptions (see also block diagram or function schematic).
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors are evaluated by the microprocessor and the corresponding components are actuated.
Transmission of initial parameters
The collision warning system radar sensor transmits the following initial parameters via the chassis CAN:
- Requests to output optical and acoustic warning messages in IC control unit (IC)
- Requests to initiate PRE-SAFE® measures (with code JP1 (PRE-SAFE®))
- Request to increase the braking torque
- Request for torque reduction
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Body
The collision warning system radar sensor contains the following components:
- Radar sensor
- Control unit
Properties of the radar sensor:
- Detection range of the radar sensor: s = 0 to 80 m for a detection angle of ∠ = 18°° ±8°°
- 25 GHz radar sensor operating on the pulse Doppler principle for independent measurement of distance and speed
The collision warning system radar sensor must be readjusted using the integrated "Service Adjustment Mode" after replacement (e.g. after an accident repair).
