Shown on model 222
Location
The Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive control unit is located in the trunk on the left sidewall.
Tasks
The Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive control unit is the evaluation and arithmetic unit of the right outer rear bumper radar sensor (B92/7), the left outer rear bumper radar sensor (B92/10), the short and long-range radar sensor (B92/12), as well as for the object and lane data of the MFK stereo (A40/13). This in turn means that the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive control unit is responsible for the following tasks:
- Reading in of sensors and signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Control of systems
- Output of signals
Reading in of sensors and signals
The input factors are received via the following connections:
- Suspension FlexRay (Flex E)
- Radar CAN 2 (CAN S2)
Chassis FlexRay
The Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive control unit receives the following information via the chassis FlexRay, among other things:
- Radar data from the short and long-range radar sensors
- Diagnostic data from the short and long-range radar sensors
- Status of the accelerator pedal
- Gear range status
- Service brake, status
- Status of brake pedal
- ESP® status
- Yaw rate/yawing moment status
- Standstill control status
- Status information from the driver assist or driving safety system
- Wheel speeds and wheel rotation direction
- Brake torque
- Drive torque
- Tire pressure (with code 475 (Tire pressure monitor (premium))
- Tire pressure loss warning (RDW) (with code 477 (Tire pressure loss warning))
- Parking brake status
- Steering wheel angle status
- Position data for navigation
- Driver request through the cruise control lever (S40/4)
- Driver request via menu settings in the instrument cluster (A1)
- Status of the turn signal (with code 237 (Active Blind Spot Assist) or code 238 (Active Lane Keeping Assist)
- Track data (with code 238 (Active Lane Keeping Assist))
- ECO event
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Radar CAN 2
The signals for the following assembly parts are received over the radar CAN 2:
- Outer right rear bumper radar sensor (B92/7)
- Outer left rear bumper radar sensor (B92/10)
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors are evaluated by the integrated microprocessors and the relevant assembly parts are then actuated.
Control of systems
The Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive control unit actuates the following systems to match the particular equipment involved:
- Variable speed limiter (except code 494 (USA version))
- Permanent speed limiter (e.g. for winter tires)
- DISTRONIC Distance-Pilot
- Steering-Pilot
- Evasive Steering Assist
- Active Brake Assist with intersection function (with code 23P (Driving assistance package))
- Pedestrian protection emergency brake function (with code 271 (Autonomous intervention by the brake system/pedestrian protection))
- Rear-end PRE-SAFE® (with CODE 253 (Rear collision warning and protection system))
- Active Blind Spot Assist (with CODE 237 (Active Blind Spot Assist))
- Active Lane Keeping Assist (with CODE 238 (Active Lane Keeping Assist))
Output of signals
The signals are issued over the following connections:
- Chassis FlexRay
- Radar CAN 2
Chassis FlexRay
The Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive control unit also sends the following signals via the chassis FlexRay:
- Increase in the drive torque
- Reduction in the drive torque
- Driving stages limitation
- Increasing the gear range
- Reducing the gear range
- Warning tone output
- System and warning indicators output
- Request for PRE-SAFE® measures
- Request to the parking brake
- Radar requirements of the long range radar (vehicle/operation-specific data
- Diagnosis request
- ECO event confirmation
With code 237 (Active Blind Spot Assist), the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive control unit sends the following signals, among others, via the chassis FlexRay:
- Wheel selective intervention by the brake system
- Activation of left Blind Spot Assist warning lamp (M21/1e2) or right Blind Spot Assist warning lamp (M21/2e2)
- Warning tone output
- System and warning indicators output
- Radar requirements of the long range radar (vehicle/operation-specific data
- Diagnosis request
With code 238 (Active Lane Keeping Assist), the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive control unit sends the following signals, among others, via the chassis FlexRay:
- Wheel selective intervention by the brake system
- Warning tone output
- System and warning indicators output
- Radar requirements of the long range radar (vehicle/operation-specific data
- Diagnosis request
Radar CAN 2
The Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive control unit transmits, among others, the following signals via radar CAN 2:
- Radar requirements of the short range radar (vehicle/operation-specific data)
- Diagnosis request
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
