General 

The vehicle speed is reduced by reducing the drive torque.

Function 

Reducing the drive torque starts the following activities:

• Engine torque reduction.

  The engine management system implements the "Reduce engine torque" request.

• Gear downshift (vehicles with automatic transmission).

  The transmission management system implements the "Shift down gear" request.

• Service brake actuation.

  The service brake is actuated by the brake system if the deceleration of the vehicle by way of reducing drive torque is not sufficient.
