Prerequisites For Testing The Alternator - Ar15.40-S-5009E

Model 907 with engine 274, 642, 651

WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
WARNING Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

REMOVING Remove     
1.1 Remove lower engine compartment lining. Model 907 with code XM1 (Noise abatement measures) AR61.20-D-1105TS
  Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
1.2 Raise vehicle. Models 907 except code XM1 (noise abatement measures)  
  Special instructions for lifting and supporting vehicle Typ 907 AH00.60-N-0100-01TS
    Models 907except code XM1 (noise abatement measures) AR00.60-D-1000-04TS
INSPECT Check     
2 Check whether electric lines of circuit 30 are fitted tightly and are in perfect condition. IMPORTANT Check following positions:
Battery positive line on battery,
Positive line on fuse box,
Positive line on starter,
Positive line on alternator.
If there is a problem,

repair circuit 30 electric lines and fasten.
 
3 Check whether electric lines of circuit 31 are fitted tightly and are in perfect condition. IMPORTANT Check following positions:
Battery ground line to battery
Ground line from the transmission to the body.
If there is a problem,

repair circuit 31 electric lines and fasten.
 
4 Check condition of poly-V-belt.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 907 with engine 642
Model 907 with engine 651

5 Start engine.    
6 Check charge indicator in instrument cluster. IMPORTANT In case of correct charging voltage, no fault message is shown in the display on the instrument cluster.
If a fault message appears,

determine the cause and perform suitable repair measures.
 
7 Switch off engine.    
INSTALLING Install     
8.1 Attach lower engine compartment lining. Models 907 with code XM1 (noise abatement measures) AR61.20-S-1105E
    Model 907 with code XM1 (Noise abatement measures) AR61.20-D-1105TS
8.2 Lower vehicle. Models 907 except code XM1 (noise abatement measures)
