	Remove/install
1	Detach ground line of on-board electrical system battery.		AR54.10-D-0029TS
2	Remove vacuum hose from boost pressure control diaphragm capsule (2).
3	Remove screws/bolts (4). Note on calculation of tightening torque when using insertion or socket tools with various effective lengths		AH00.00-P-0015-01CW

4	Position boost pressure control diaphragm capsule (2) together with the bracket outside of the working area (arrow).	Remove screw (3) to do this. Bolt, holder for diaphragm capsule to exhaust gas turbocharger	*BA09.40-N-1008-02TSR
5	Remove the heat shield (5).	To do so, remove the screw/bolts (6). Bolt, starter heat shield to bracket	*BA15.30-N-1006-01TS
6	Remove electrical wiring harness (9) from starter (1).	For this purpose, remove nut (8). Nut, electrical line to starter	*BA15.30-N-1003-01TS
7	Remove electric line (11) from starter (1).	For this purpose, remove nut (10). Nut, electrical line to starter	*BA15.30-N-1003-01TS
8	Raise vehicle.		AR00.60-D-1000-04TS
	Special instructions for lifting and supporting vehicle		AH00.60-N-0100-01TS
9	Remove underbody paneling.	Model 907 with code XM1 (Noise abatement measures)	AR61.30-D-1001TS
10	Remove bolts_(7).	Bolt, starter to crankcase	*BA15.30-N-1001-01TS
11	Lower vehicle.
12	Remove starter (1).	To do this, guide out starter (1) between the boost pressure control diaphragm capsule (2) and exhaust manifold.
	Check
13	Check ring gear on flywheel or drive plate for damage and wear.	To do so, rotate engine at crankshaft in direction of engine rotation. Counterholder	Fig 3

		In the case of damage, ↓ Replace flywheel or drive plate. Remove/install drive plate	AR03.30-D-8003TSR

14	Check starter drive pinion for damage and wear.	In the case of damage, ↓ Replace starter (1).
15	Install in the reverse order.
