Engine Controls - Tests W/O Codes: Symptoms: Notes
Symptom checks cannot be used properly unless problem occurs while vehicle is being tested. To reduce diagnostic time, ensure steps in BASIC TESTING and appropriate TESTS W/CODES articles in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section were performed before diagnosing a symptom. Symptoms available for diagnosis are as follows:
Engine Starting Problems
- No Crank
- Crank But Will Not Start
- Tries to Start But Will Not
- Starts, But Takes A Long Time
Engine Quit
- Right After Starting
- While Idling
- On Acceleration
- During Steady Speed Driving
- Right After Starting
- On Deceleration
- Right After the Vehicle is Brought To a Stop
Engine Idle Problems W/The Vehicle Not Moving
- Engine Speed is Too Slow All the Time
- Engine Speed is Too Slow When the A/C is On
- Engine Speed is Too Fast
- Engine Speed is Rough or Uneven
Engine Problems While The Vehicle is Moving
- Runs Rough
- Bucks and Jerks
- Hesistates/Stumbles on Acceleration
- Misfires - Cuts Out
- Engine Knocks or Rattles
- Lack of Power
- Backfires
- Poor Fuel Economy
