Test B: System Is Not Charging, Charge Warning Indicator Operates Properly
- Perform NO-LOAD TEST under ON-VEHICLE TESTING. If generator output is lower than specified, go to next step. If generator output is as specified, check battery state of charge and perform battery load test according to load tester manufacturer's instructions.
- Turn ignition off. Inspect drive belt condition and tension. See ADJUSTMENTS . Adjust, repair or replace belt as necessary and check system operation. If drive belt is okay, disconnect generator terminal B+ (Black wire on 1999 models, Black/White wire on 2000 models) connector. Measure voltage between generator B+ connector terminal and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair circuit and check system operation. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Disconnect generator 2-pin connector. Measure voltage between generator connector Blue wire terminal and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair circuit and check system operation. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Disconnect generator ground connector (smaller gauge Black wire). Measure resistance between generator connector Black wire and ground. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair ground wire or ground connection, and check system operation. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace generator. See GENERATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
